Things I do at work

I'm currently working out the math on a 25 opening mat for a local Freemason's Lodge, and trying to figure out if I could also cut a scalloped mat without a CMC for a memory box for a lady who grew up in India (and loves the archetecture).

In the meanwhile, let me show you an example of something I've done.

This was a special release of stamps by the Royal Post over in the UK. I framed this rather simply, mounting it on the red, and cutting a single purple mat, and finished it off with a rather unremarkable black frame and regular glass. What I did that was a little crafty was to cut the opening to follow the shape of the record. Must say I did waste a few scrap mats figuring out the exact positioning and diameter for that circular cut. Once the circle was cut, it was easy to add the square cut.

A Step in the Right Direction

I decided last fall to participate in the Sketchbook Project. It sounded like a FUN idea, which is something that's been lacking in my studio for the past couple of years. Wow, license to create without restrictions?? I'm in.

Want to see what other people involved are doing? Go here.

So, my sketchbook is completed and sent off... I'm just waiting for a confirmation from the Co-op that they actually received it. It was a little hard mailing it off, letting it go and chancing it to the postal system, but I figure I have pictures of it already, and doing this was mostly about the process for me. My sketchbook is a bit rambling, I tried to make it a bit of a blend between pure sketching and telling a little tale of sorts, and it felt really good putting pen and brush to paper.

I'll post pictures in weeks to come, but right now I'm playing archeologist in the pile of work in my studio so that I can snap some pictures to put on my profile on the Art House Co-op site. Having lost 3 hard drives in past years you'd think I'd have learned to keep back-ups of my photos and important documents.

This is a test

If this were real post, an important message would follow. Do not be alarmed, this is only a test.
